– Elevated section (7.5 km,from Tavarekere to Kalena Agrahara) by March 2026.
– Underground stretch (13.76 km, connecting Dairy Circle to Nagawara) by September 2026.
– Civil construction completed for the elevated portion; track installation and system integration work underway across both sections.
– June milestone: “Third rail” testing conducted between Jayadeva and Tavarekere for energising metro trains.
– Originally expected in 2020, Pink Line commissioning was pushed back multiple times due largely to tunneling challenges posed by Bengaluru’s tough subsoil composition (granite formations and dolerite boulders).
The extended delays surrounding Bengaluru’s Pink Line draw attention to the notable engineering hurdles faced during urban infrastructure projects in densely populated cities with challenging geological conditions. While the completion of tunneling marks a major achievement for BMRCL, its repeated schedule overhauls risk eroding public confidence. These setbacks highlight the critical need for more accurate project planning that accounts proactively for geotechnical complexities.
From an operational perspective, once complete, the Pink Line is poised to become a key transportation backbone through its north-south connectivity across strategic hubs such as M.G Road and Shivajinagar. This can alleviate traffic congestion considerably while improving urban mobility. Though, timely execution moving forward will be crucial for restoring faith in large-scale urban transit efforts like Phase 2 of Namma metro’s expansion.
