In a shocking incident, a 58-year-old man allegedly beheaded his wife and her male friend following an altercation on Thursday. Following this, the accused carried the severed heads with him and surrendered at the Bagayam police station in neighbouring Vellore district.
The victims were identified as Lakshmi, 40, second wife of Kolanji, 58, and Thangarasu, 62, of Malaikottalam in Kallakurichi district.
According to the police, Kolanji and Lakshmi have three children, and were residing at Malaikottalam. On Thursday morning, the torsos of a man and a woman were found on the terrace of Kolanji’s house. The locals alerted the police, who retrieved the bodies and sent them to the Kallakurichi Government Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem.
An investigation revealed that the torsos belonged to Lakshmi and Thangarasu.
Police said Kolanji had suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair with Thangarasu. This had led to frequent fights between the two. Kolanji had beheaded them and abandoned the torsos on the terrace of his house. After killing them, he took their severed heads to the Bagayam police and turned himself in.
A team from the Varanjaram police station in Kallakurichi district has left for Vellore to bring Kolanji in for questioning in connection with the incident. Further investigation is on.
