The Saidabad police arrested a 48-year-old woman on Thursday for the murder of her 70-year-old relative, and stealing his silver ornaments.
The accused, identified as Nenavath Manga, allegedly killed Katroth Shivaiah on the intervening night of September 14 and 15 at his under-construction house in Vishnu Nagar, said DCP (South East) Chaitnya Kumar.
According to the officer, the complainant, the victim’s elder daughter, found her father dead on September 15 with strangulation marks and missing ornaments.
“Investigations revealed that Manga, who lived in the same locality, had long-standing disputes with the victim’s family. The deceased had blamed her for financial losses arising from incomplete construction work after she introduced them to a contractor named Venkatesh,” said the officer.
It was also revealed that Manga developed illicit relationship with Venkatesh and was under financial strain due to unpaid vehicle loans.
On September 14, after a quarrel with the victim’s wife that escalated into a public altercation with Shivaiah, she allegedly decided to eliminate him.
“In the early hours of September 15, while Shivaiah slept in an intoxicated state, Manga suffocated him with a pillow and strangled him with a plastic thread. She then removed silver ornaments from his person and hid them in a rice tin at her home,” added the officer.
Evidence including the plastic thread, pillow and other articles was seized from the scene, and a post-mortem confirmed death by strangulation.
Following her arrest, the stolen ornaments weighing about 30 tolas were recovered at her instance.
